Rani recalls father's heartbreak after Black National Award Loss 

Actress Rani Mukerji is one of the most talented actress across the Indian Film Industry. Rani who has been working in the industry for more than 25 years have managed to still stay active and relevant. 

She recently at an event spoke about how her father responded after she didn't win the National Award for best actress for Film Black. She said I gave my all in Black and I was all 25 at that time when I did that film. There was chatter that I would win and when I didn't win that is when my blinkers came on. I was like even when you do your best work, things might not be in your favour.

Rani added I've to be honest and tell you that my father was very disappointed. My baba was very heartbroken that I didn't win that year. So was Sanjay, who was the director of the film. But, I guess when things are meant to happen, they happen. The way India and my fans cheered for me, it couldn't have been better than that.

Apart from Rani Amitabh Bachchan starred in a pivotal role. Actors like Ayesha Kapur, Shernaz Patel and Dhritiman Chatterjee also played  important parts in the film. 

Black was inspired by author-activist Helen Keller. The story revolves around Michelle a deaf, mute and blind girl. It shows her relationship with Debraj who happens to be her teacher. Black was co-written, co-produced and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film won National Award for Best Actor, Best Film in Hindi and Best Costume Design. 

Talking about Rani Mukerji's recent feat the actress won her first National Award for Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. The film was inspired by real life story of Sagarika Chakraborty. Rani's co-star Shahrukh Khan in many of her films also won his first every National Award for Best Actor for Jawan. They both have shared screen space in many films. 

Before Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway Rani was seen in Yash Raj Films Bunty Aur Babli 2 in the year 2021. She reprised her role of Babli from 2005 released Bunty Aur Babli. However, the sequel had Saif Ali Khan as Bunty as opposed to Abhishek Bachchan who played Bunty in the prequel. The film was directed by Varun V. Sharma.

On the work front, Rani is all set to reprise her role of Shivani Shivaji Roy in Mardaani 3. It is directed by Abhiraj Minawala. The film is scheduled to hit the screens on February 27, 2026. Rani reportedly is also playing a pivotal part in Shahrukh Khan starrer King. The film also stars Shahrukh's daughter Suhana Khan. King is directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
