Producer Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus has had a long journey in his life. He is the eldest son of Bollywood producer Narendra Malhotra and grandson of cinematographer M.N. Malhotra.

Starting out from his father's garage in Mumbai with his first company an editing studio called Video Workshop in 1995. In 1997, he later merged Video Workshop with his father's film equipment rental business Video Works to create Prime Focus. 

Namit is now the founder of Prime Focus Limited which is an Indian visual and special effects company. He is also the CEO of DNEG stand out for Double Negative. This is the subsidiary of Prime Focus that specializes in visual effects, animation and sound effects. 

He is currently making his most ambitious films which is considered to be one of greatest films ever to be made in the world Ramayana Part 1. The film is starring Ranbir Kapoor in the divine role of Lord Ram.

Namit in an interview had spoken about the film and the massive budget being put in the making of the film. He said When Ramayana came as an opportunity to create, it felt like we should show that story in a way, show that world in a way that it truly deserves. Because it is something that holds such great significance in our country something we deeply worship. So the question was, how can we bring this to the world using technology and a fusion of creativity, in a way that brings it to the right scale. And this has become the biggest vision, inspiration and focus of my life today.

Namit further said Yes, people have seen Ramayana on television on the small screen. But even then no one has made a Ramayana film with such a large budget. What’s new is that we have never seen these epic battles, the grandest of wars and the greatest of characters come alive on screen. 

He went onto say The Ramayana we have seen till now has been like a stage play, where someone says, Now here a war took place. We want to show you that exact moment and show it on that kind of scale in a way that makes us proud. So that people can see what exists in our imagination and our writing that grand scale.

The producer concluded by saying There is no story in the world, no character in the world that’s greater than the Ramayana. And that thought became a kind of challenge in my mind. Why is it that our story has never been seen by the world till today? We ourselves have not seen it nor has the world and I am working with complete dedication to reach that point where we can bring these things to life in such a way that everyone feels proud and people get the experience of watching a new Ramayana. 

Ramayana Part 1 is set to release on Diwali 2026. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Mother Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Yash as Ravan, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi to name a few. Ramayana is a two part series.
