Jitendra Kumar, an actor widely loved for his roles in family-friendly content like Panchayat and Kota Factory, is reportedly making a significant shift to the intense, dark world of the crime drama franchise, Mirzapur.
The actor is set to join the cast of the upcoming feature film adaptation, Mirzapur: The Film, a project that is generating massive excitement among fans of the popular web series.
Stepping Into the Role of Bablu Pandit
While there has been no official confirmation from the production house, multiple reports suggest that Jitendra Kumar is being roped in to play the character of Bablu Pandit. This role was originally portrayed by actor Vikrant Massey in the first season of the Mirzapur series.
The character of Bablu Pandit was central to the first season. Bablu was the intelligent, academically-driven brother of Guddu Pandit (Ali Fazal). A law student with big dreams, his life took a dark and violent turn when he was reluctantly drawn into the criminal empire of the Tripathi family, led by the formidable Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi).
Bablu's sharp mind and planning skills quickly made him an asset, but his journey was tragically cut short, a shocking event that became a turning point for the entire series.
The reported recasting of such a crucial role has sparked significant discussion. Vikrant Massey, who originally played the character, reportedly declined the offer to reprise the role for the film. Sources suggest that Massey was hesitant to revisit the character's tragic end from Season 1 in a cinematic format.
This created an opening for Jitendra Kumar to step in, a move that showcases the actor's versatility and willingness to tackle a role drastically different from his usual image.
Jitendra Kumar's casting is particularly intriguing because of the contrast it creates.
He is famously known as 'Jeetu Bhaiya' from Kota Factory and 'Sachiv ji' from Panchayat, characters defined by their integrity, quiet resolve, and simplicity. Placing an actor with such a "good boy" image into the morally complex, blood-soaked narrative of Bablu Pandit will be a dramatic change for the audience to witness.
The challenge for Kumar will be to convincingly portray the character's intellectual descent into crime and his struggle to survive in the violent landscape of Purvanchal.
Mirzapur: The Film is being developed as one of the first successful Indian web series franchises to be adapted into a feature film for a theatrical release. While plot details are being kept under wraps, comments from returning cast members, like Ali Fazal, suggest that the movie might act as a prequel or a story that revisits the past of the main characters. This would logically explain the return of characters like Bablu Pandit and potentially Munna Bhaiya (Divyenndu), whose arcs had seemingly concluded in the series.
The film will feature the return of the iconic main cast, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, and Divyenndu, among others. Jitendra Kumar's inclusion, whether as a straight recast of Bablu Pandit or possibly a new character that mirrors Bablu's intellectual role in the gang, is a highly anticipated element that promises to bring a fresh dynamic to the film's intense narrative. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2026. To know such latest updates, stay tuned to serialboosters.com Thank you!
