The veteran actor Bobby Deol recently appeared on a podcast hosted by Shubhankar Mishra, offering an unusually candid look into his challenging years, his successful comeback, and the sometimes-harsh realities of the film industry. The conversation provided deep insights into the actor's personal struggles, his battle with addiction, and the shifting dynamics of his professional relationships.
A major theme of the discussion was how the industry's perception of him changed during his career slump in the 2000s and 2010s, a period where he had fewer films and a string of box-office misses.
Bobby Deol spoke openly about the slow but noticeable process of being ignored by the same people who were once warm and welcoming. He noted that as his films began to underperform, his invitations to industry parties dried up, and people he knew well would start to distance themselves from him.
He acknowledged that this behavior is simply the nature of the industry, stating, "people are with you as long as you have something to offer." Crucially, the actor stressed that he harbors no grudges against those who distanced themselves. He even highlighted the irony that the same people are now returning with offers following his recent successes, and he accepts them without holding onto past hurts.
Bobby Deol revealed the extent to which he had to personally push for a comeback, breaking the traditional norm where actors of his stature would typically wait for producers to approach them.
During his lowest phase, spurred by a realization that he had to get out of his slump, he took the bold step of visiting directors' and producers' offices. He recalled telling them directly, "I am Bobby Deol. Please give me work." He maintained there was "nothing wrong with that," as it at least ensured they remembered he was actively looking.
He admitted to having "given up in life once" but eventually found an inner voice that reminded him of his strong start and the talent he still possessed. This realization was key to him starting his active search for work, believing that putting himself out there was the only way to move forward.
Personal Struggles and Gratitude for His Family
Perhaps the most personal revelation was the detail Bobby Deol shared about the struggles he faced in his private life, particularly his battle with alcohol addiction.
He described alcohol as "the biggest addiction," one that "messes with your brains" and leads to saying things one doesn't remember later. He admitted that his drinking habits, though not daily, created fear in his home because of his unpredictable behavior.
The actor paid emotional tribute to his wife, Tanya Deol, stating that he believes any other woman would have left him during that dark phase. He credited her for standing by him, supporting him, and taking care of him, directly attributing his current position and successful resurgence to her unwavering support. He is grateful for his family, acknowledging the foundational strength his wife provided. To know such latest updates, stay tuned to serialboosters.com Thank you!
