Anupam Mittal, founder of People Group and Shaadi.com, recent post on LinkedIn is making rounds on the internet. He shares about his daughter that they wanted to break the traditional norm and wanted to choose a middle name for a daughter that is more meaningful, unlike Indian tradition, where the family's last name is used.

The reason being, according to Anupam, a child's name often has their father's name, and later when the girl marries, it is replaced by their husband's name. Leaving little to no room for her own identity, and keeping that in mind, he named his daughter Alyssa Anantara instead of giving her his name, Anupam, as a middle name.

Explaining her daughter's name, Anupam said that "Anantara" means limitless and is also a name for Saraswati, the goddess of wisdom.

He also mentioned that why they kept this name was because they wanted her to be recognized as an individual in her own right, rather than being defined by her relationships to others.
