Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt has secured her place in the history books of Indian cinema after winning her sixth Filmfare Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. The win, which was for her critically noted performance in the film Jigra, marks a major milestone as she officially broke the long-standing record previously held by legendary actresses Nutan and Kajol.
The 70th Filmfare Awards saw Alia Bhatt receive the coveted 'Black Lady' trophy for her work in the drama Jigra. This latest victory is particularly significant because it is her sixth award in the main Best Actress category (not including her Critics' Award win for Highway).
This sixth win officially places her ahead of two of Hindi cinema's most decorated female stars:
Nutan The late, great veteran actress had held the record for decades, having won five Filmfare Best Actress awards during her illustrious career.
Kajol The contemporary star had equaled Nutan's record in 2011, also accumulating five Best Actress trophies.
Alia's achievement is being celebrated as a powerful moment for her generation, confirming her as the actress with the most Filmfare Best Actress wins in the award's history. It also continues her impressive run of recognition, marking her third consecutive win in this category. She has previously won for roles in acclaimed films such as Udta Punjab, Raazi, Gully Boy, Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
Although Alia Bhatt was reportedly not present at the awards ceremony, she took to her Instagram account to share her gratitude and joy with a heartfelt note, accompanying it with several behind-the-scenes pictures from the sets of Jigra.
In her post, she emphasized that the award was deeply meaningful to her, writing:
"This one will always stay closest to my heart… not just for the story we told, but for the incredible people who gave it life."
She expressed her deep thanks to the film’s director, Vasan Bala, "for seeing it the way you did," and extended gratitude to her co-star, Vedang Raina, and the rest of the cast and crew for the "honesty" they brought to the frames.
Furthermore, she called out her sister, Shaheen Bhatt, referencing the film’s title by calling her real-life "Jigra" (meaning 'dearest' or 'heart'). Alia concluded her moving tribute by thanking Filmfare for the honour and sharing a quote from the film's music: "For now, all I can say is ‘Taara na disse, ya chaann kho jaawe. Tenu sang rakhna’," which translates roughly to, 'Even if the stars disappear, or the moon is lost, I will keep you with me.'
The emotional post acknowledged her team, her family, and the recognition itself, perfectly capping off a historic night that cemented her record-breaking status in Bollywood’s competitive awards landscape. To know such latest updates, stay tuned to serialboosters.com Thank you!
