Akshay and Aamir face off News Update on SerialBoosters.com
Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar have been in the industry for over 30 years now and they have build an empire and a legacy for themselves. Akshay who made his debut with Saugandh in 1991 and Aamir who entered the film industry with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 is pitted against each other with their diffrent views on theatrical versus OTT releases.
On the other hand, Akshay has decided to stood beside the OTT platforms and their issue of having 6 months release after the theatrical releases. During a conversation with a news channel Akshay said According to me, a three-month gap is okay. Six months is too long because at the end of the day, the OTT platform is paying you for the digital rights. They also need to benefit from the deal.
He further said When it comes to digital rights sale, producers happily take money from the OTT platform. But when we want to, we also conveniently say our films aren’t working because of OTT. We don’t consider that maybe we’re not making the right films.
Akshay concluded by saying I don’t have any other work than making movies. Since I’m not educated, I do only movies. So, I get a lot of time to watch OTT,” he shared. Acknowledging his journey, he added, “Thirty percent is hard work, which should feel like you’ve done 100% hard work, but you also need that 70% luck to make it. When I enter a studio, I often see a struggler better looking, a better dancer, and who does better action than me, but he hasn’t gotten a chance yet.
However, Aamir has taken a stand for theatre distributors who ask for a 6 month period a gap between the theatrical release and OTT release of a film. Aamir had faced the low footfalls for Laapataa Ladies as he thinks audience doesn't come to the theatres after a limited week window which damage the theatre business.
With his last film Sitaare Zameen Par Aamir had for the first time after the theatrical release of the film released the film on YouTube with Pay Per View format. Aamir saw a significant business coming in with this format as well.
On the work front, Aamir will be seen next in Dadasaheb Phalke's biopic which is helmed by Rajkumar Hirani. He is considered as the father of the Indian cinema. The script of the film has been asked to re-written by Rajkumar and writer Abhijat Joshi by Aamir himself.
Aamir is also set to be see in the film Lahore 1947. He we will be seen doing a cameo in Rajkumar Santoshi film starring Sunny Deol. The film is expected to release next year.
Meanwhile, Akshay has an array of films including Bhoot Bangla, Hera Pheri 3, Welcome to the Jungle, Haiwaan etc. The buzz around Akshay's film is soaring quiet high. To know such latest updates, stay tuned to serialboosters.com Thank you!
